If you're having issues watching Tubi on your Fire TV/Stick device, please try the following troubleshooting steps.
Check and update your Fire TV's operating system
An outdated Fire TV operating system (OS) may cause issues, so it's always a good idea to double check that your Fire TV OS is up to date. Here's how to check for and install OS updates:
- From the Fire TV home screen, select Settings.
- Select My Fire TV.
- Select About
- Select Check for Updates.
- Wait for a few seconds. Your Fire TV device will tell you if there are any updates available, or if your device is already up to date.
Restart your Fire TV device
- From the Fire TV home screen, go to Settings (along the very top row).
- Select My Fire TV.
- Select Restart.
- Select Restart again to confirm.
Clear Tubi's cache/data
Clearing an app's cache may help with buffering issues. Clearing an app's data will reset the app to default settings (you will have to log into your Tubi account again.) Here's how to do this:
- From the Fire TV home screen, select Settings.
- Select Applications.
- Select Manage Installed Applications.
- Select Tubi from the list.
- You can now choose to "Clear data" or "Clear cache". Clearing data will reset the app entirely (and will also clear the cache). You will need to sign into your Tubi account again after you do this.
Test your internet speed on the Fire TV device
Generally speaking, a download speed of 10Mbps is recommended to stream content without interruptions. If you have a high-speed plan and are getting lower speeds than that, you may want to reach out to your Internet provider.
You can test your speed by installing a speed test app or a web browser on your Fire TV. Here's how to do it using a web browser on your Fire TV. Please note, in order to get the most accurate results, the test needs to be run on the actual device you're using, not another device on the same network.
If you already have a web browser installed on your Fire TV device, please skip to step 4.
- From the Fire TV home screen, select the Search option in the top left corner (looks like a magnifying glass).
- Search for the browser you want to download, for example Firefox, then click that browser in the search results.
- Select the browser in the following window, and then Download/Get.
- Open the browser (once it finishes installing. You may see a couple of prompts upon first installation, so go ahead and answer those prompts as appropriate).
- Once in the main window of the Firefox browser, click the address bar at the top.
- Using the on-screen keyboard, type in the URL speedof.me, then click Next or press the Play/Pause button on your Fire TV remote.
- On the Speedof.me page, click Start Test and wait while the webpage tests your network speed automatically.
Check/improve wifi signal strength
Signal strength between your modem and Fire TV device can make a difference in how smoothly your videos stream. Here's how to check that signal.
- From the Fire TV home screen, select Settings.
- Select Network. You should see your wifi network listed there.
- Highlight your wifi address/name, and the right panel will show you the status under Signal Strength.
Very Good is what you want to see. Poor or Weak means there's a problem. In these cases:
- Make sure your modem is within 20-30 feet of your Fire TV device.
- If possible, place your modem 6 feet or higher for better signal.
- Remove any electrical devices near your modem that may be interfering with your signal.
Use an Ethernet cable for wired connection
A wired connection will generally be faster than a wireless one, so if this is an option for your home/device, you may consider plugging the Ethernet wire directly into your Fire TV device. Amazon has an Amazon Ethernet Adapter for Amazon Fire TV Devices available for sale if you want to plug your FireStick into an Ethernet cable.
Please note that this solution will only help if you're not already getting fast, reliable network speed via wifi.
Clear Fire TV device RAM
Your Amazon Fire TV device has a relatively small amount of RAM, or memory, which may be used up quickly by apps that keep running in the background, even when you close them. Low RAM space is often a cause of buffering video, and you can clear up RAM space by force-closing background applications.
To individually force-close apps, follow these steps:
- From the Fire TV home screen, select Settings.
- Select Applications.
- Select Manage Installed Applications.
- Select an individual app.
- You should now see a panel of choices appear. Select Force Stop.
- When this is done, press the back button on your remote.
- Select the next app in the list. You will see the same options for the next app on the list. Click Force Stop again.
- Keep repeating this until you have force-closed all the background apps.
